Description

Two bottles from a case recently removed from a Cambridge College cellar.

Attached are the four most recent cellartracker notes:

11/27/2015 - MEKWINE LIKES THIS WINE: 92 Points
RSJ 'IAN A's Greatest hits of the 1970s': True to form and its commune. Wonderfully austere, vigorous and intense. Bold and upright. Earthy, tad menthol with hints of liquorice. Extra long and pleasant finish. Lovely!

10/10/2015 - REDBURGUNDYWINE LIKES THIS WINE: 96 Points
This is a fabulous wine. Bottle was filled to very low neck and had been stored perfectly. Cork came out smoothly and in great shape. Opened the bottle and it stood for 30 minutes, then drank. It peaked half an hour later, so it's a huge mistake to give this too much air time. Open and enjoy and don't linger too long. A combination of rustic earthy notes combines with some velvety fruit. It's just perfect at this time and likely will not get any better, but should drink well for some more years to come. A lovely experience.

10/10/2015 - SDR LIKES THIS WINE: 91 Points
This bottle was in excellent condition, VTS level, tight firm moist cork which came out in one piece, sourced from Premier Cru many years ago. Excellent healthy medium deep ruby with orange rim. This is classical old fashioned Montrose - rustic, meaty, even harsh. Lots of creosote, tar and licorice. Firm acids. Not remotely elegant but it is impressive for its sheer vigor and intensity. This wine needs a hunk of charred venison to try to tame it.

10/4/2015 - PROF B WROTE: 95 Points
This bottle had a bottom neck fill. The cork was soft and disintegrated during removal. The wine itself was muted upon opening. It was left to slow-o for two and a half hours, then decanted and consumed over the following two and a half hours. The nose remained rather muted but I could detect cassis, dry tobacco, and violets with agitation. The body revealed plum and cassis along with pencil lead, tar, and hints of dry tobacco. The moderately acidic finish lasted for a nice long while. Some drying tannins were also present on the finish.
