Description

Rich, dark, cherry, maturing, deep, rich, very Pauillac, crisp fruit, fairly sweet, perfect weight, dry finish. ***** Now to 2025 Michael Broadbent

This profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is "great stuff", with superb density, a full-lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. Now to 2030
Score: 95+ Robert Parker, 2008

Terrific Cellartracker notes:

4/30/2013 - MARKELLN@BELLSOUTH.NET LIKES THIS WINE:94 Points
Bordeaux 1st Growth Brown Bag Wine Dinner at Two Chefs; 4/30/2013-5/1/2013 (TWO CHEFS, MIAMI, FL): Luis R's wine. Garnet color. Slow legs. Cassis, Lead Pencil Mineral notes. Still youthful. Full bodied with an extended finish.

4/28/2013 - AAGRAWAL WROTE:96 Points
Manresa Graduation Dinner (Manresa, Los Gatos): Medium ruby color with very little bricking; nose has fantastic complexity with mint, bell pepper, earthy, green but with good mature red fruit; palate is less complex but balanced, full bodied but not rich, elements of maturity, roasted vegetables; medium-long finish. This is a lovely classic Bordeaux with an exceptional nose and a balanced palate. This is ready now with a long plateau. (Lasted 4 hours in a decanter before declining.)

3/27/2013 - JEFF LEVE WROTE:95 Points
With close to 3 hours of decanting, 1995 Mouton Rothschild developed a nose of tobacco, espresso bean, earth, crème de cassis, ash, herbs, spearmint and spicy cherries. Still tannic, this is a big, powerful, refined, but masculine Pauillac. Once the wine started softening, the spicy, boysenberry filled finish fleshed out, becoming a lot more fun to drink. From a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc.

2/13/2013 - MNEELEMAN LIKES THIS WINE:95 Points
Annual Wine evening 2013 (Restaurant L'Etranger): A lovely elegant wine with a long finish. Showed why this is first growth and deserved to be the winner of the evening.
