Description

Very smoky, with berry, coffee and tobacco aromas. Full-bodied, with polished velvety tannins, plenty of fruit and a cedary aftertaste. Tight and compacted. This is better than the 2000 Mouton. It's a baby 1986 Mouton. Solid and very, very fine. Persists for a long time on the palate. Best after 2009.

Tasted by A&C on 6/9/2012 & rated 94 points: The first thing I noticed was the nose: wow!! Big, rich, fruit-filled nose that you could literally smell across the room. The second thing I noticed was that the wine is open for business now, and not closed down. It had a great fruit profile dominating the typical underlying bordeaux notes. This was delicious, and very enjoyable. Flavors included hibiscus flowers, baking spice, red fruits (almost a raspberry profile), and very bright acidity. The wine was slightly more acidic than other bordeaux wines that I've had. The wine did have just a very subtle bricking at the edges, but is still fresh and vibrant.

Tasted by Blair Curtis on 11/6/2011 & rated 93 points:Consumed at a 10-years-out horizontal of 4 First Growths (Mouton, Latour, Margaux and Haut Brion) dinner event. All wines had been decanted about 5 hours prior for a period of about 2 hours and then returned to bottle. The Mouton started off funky and swampy. Good fruit, but not the expected perfume or profile at first. With food (especially mushrooms and duck) the wine took flight. Some at the table thought this wine was the best with the dinner. In general, this improved most over the course of the night. By the end the swampiness dissapated, leaving a very pure Cabernet-dominant wine. Plenty of ripeness and fruit to last a long time.
