Description

An opportunity to buy a mini vertical of three bottles of Chateau Musar in the 1980's.

Bottles of Chateau Musar seems to gain in complexity as they age, acquiring a lovely fragrance and more suppleness and finesse than in their youth. The unusual blend of grapes gives the wine a great ability to age gracefully and some vintages in the 1960's are still drinking wonderfully. Some people (like Robert Parker)suggest that older vintages taste similar to a Chateauneuf du Pape.Others, like myself, compare it to a fine old Burgundy.

I have located this fairly recent tasting note on the Musar 1986 from CellarTracker:-

"Smell: Earth, cement dried red fruits, gingerbread cookies and a kaleidoscope of scents that simply could not be identified as this was a wine in a constant state of transition.

Taste: Cherries, strawberries, cranberries, shitaki mushrooms, and so much more that just could not be identified.Much like the nose, this wine had a finish that seemed to last forever and was constantly changing.

Overall: I can't think of many red wines that I have had that I have enjoyed as much as I did this.I am a huge fan of this producer and hope to taste a majority of these wines, given the time and ability to locate them. They are so singularly unique and interesting that nothing could honestly be compared to them.Perhaps the best bottle from this producer I have had to date".
