Description

Good nose, sweet, delicious flavour **** Michael Broadbent

Other than Chateau Margaux, the 1982 Palmer is the strongest wine from Margaux. Keep in mind that today, the classified-growth Margaux estates are all making fine wines (Brane-Cantenac, Malescot St.-Exupery, d'Issan, etc.), but when the 1982 was conceived, most of these properties made mediocre wines. Palmer has firmed up, put on some weight, and reveals a slightly rustic edge. It possesses a deep garnet color to the rim along with plenty of sweet black fruit, charcoal, herb, and liquorice characteristics. Medium to full-bodied, flavourful, and surprisingly well-endowed, it should drink nicely for another 10-15 years
Score: 90/100 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (183), June 2009

Cellartracker Notes:

11/17/2013 - BUGDOCED WROTE:94 Points
This is in a perfect drinking window with some blueberry mildly tart fruit and earth
this lasted the entire bottle with each sip being a little different, a little more evolved.

Palmer Vertical Tasting (1982 - 2004) (Switzerland): Tasted blind: herbal notes, eucalyptus. Very balanced, nicely integrated tannins, red berries elegant yet quite long. Now mature but still has reserves for the next 10 years.

7/3/2013 - SIMONG WROTE:93 Points
Ian's Blind @ Medlar (Medlar, London): Very claret, both on the nose and palate. Initial impression is Graves, maybe 88. With air it's sweetens and becomes more fragrant. I still think Graves but not sure now. Could almost be Palmer with a richness coming through. Ok, it is, but really surprised by the vintage. Far calmer than I remember. ****

A wine overshadowed by the 83 but it is still rather good! Clear ruby, youthful appearance. The nose is immediately open and stunning. Acacia and honeysuckle, perfumed spices of Palmer ever present. Probably 95 on the nose! On the palate Otis mid-weight ( in a good way) as you are never going to get a massive and mammoth Palmer. Still fresh red and blackberry fruits and a nice balancing acidity to keep it all together and fresh. You want to keep drinking this...
