Description

Since the beginning of the twentieth century, Château Talbot has belonged to the Cordiers but the château’s name dates from the fifteenth century. It prbably comes from John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury and commander of the British Army

The wine was classified as a fourth growth in the 1855 classification and is produced from just 107 hectares of vines. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barriques, one third of which are replaced each year. Annual production is about 600,000 bottles including the second wine Connetable made from younger vines.

Parker rated the 1975 vintage 84/100 in 1996:
'The wine revealed more fruit than in the past, an earthy, herbal, chocolatey, weedy-scented nose, good extraction, and the vintage's harshness and toughness in the finish"
