Description

Wine has been produced on this left bank estate since the 17th Century. Chateau Bouscaut is now producing some of the best wine in Pessac Leognan, an area to the east of Bordeaux’s centre and better known historically as Graves – indeed it is classified as a Grand Cru Classe of Graves. There are 47 hectares under vine and the red is a mix of 55% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc and some Malbec. The Bouscaut terroir is mainly made up of clayey-gravelly soils, on a calcareous base.
Bouscaut was acquired in 1979 by Lucien Lurton, a well-known Bordeaux winemaker – Today the fourth generation, in the form of Sophie Lurton, Lucien’s daughter, is in charge. She inherited the estate in 1992, and Laurent Cogombles, her husband, an ENITA graduate, has been very involved with Bouscaut since 1998.
This wine is both deep and dark and offers charming plummy aromas with ample tannins – a food wine to be enjoyed with red meats and smoked cheeses. It has the potential for substantial ageing for those with both a cellar and patience!
