READY TO DRINK MATURE CLARET.

Château Charmail is a 22 ha property located in the Haut Medoc about 2 miles north of Saint Estèphe and next to Ch. Sociando-Mallet. Oliver Seze purchased the property in 1982.

Robert Parker/The Wine Advocate writes of the '97 :-
"A sleeper of the vintage, this intriguingly made wine (a very long cold maceration of the fruit is practiced prior to the actual fermentation) possesses an opaque black/purple color, and gorgeously sweet black raspberry fruit intermixed with licorice and spice. Sweetness (from glycerin, not sugar), ripeness, low acidity and a fleshy finish make for a hedonistic wine".

"One the most exciting wines being produced in Haut-Medoc, Charmail is undoubtedly controversial given its peculiar vinification. An extremely cold maceration in excess of five days is utilized, which gives the wine a dense purple color, as well as a sweet, black fruit character.
An excellent effort, the 1997 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to sweet, blackberry/cassis and high quality toasty oak aromas. Medium-bodied and supple, with fine ripeness, a chewy mid-palate, and a low acid, plush finish".
