Description

A high neck-level single bottle (my last in hand unfortunately) of the glorious '82 vintage of this great Second Growth. I wish I could currently afford to drink it, but feel need to avoid the temptation over Christmas! Current average retail (incl VAT) is over £360 per bottle. The bottle will be hand for you well in time for a Christmas treat (keep it to yourself though!).

(Robert Parker gives the vintage for St-Estèphe as a whole 98R - that is extraordinary / ready to drink)

A spectacular performance for this wine, Cos D'Estournel's 1982 exhibits a dark ruby/purple colour with light pink at the rim. Sweet aromas of jammy black fruits, intermixed with roasted expresso and vanillin jump from the glass of this young, concentrated, full-bodied, succulent effort. An opulent texture, low acidity, and splendidly pure, concentrated. blackberry and cassis fruit suggest this 1982 can be drunk now, or cellared for another 15-20 years. An awesome wine!".

This 1982 is still displaying a beautiful deep ruby/purple hue as well as a stunning set of aromatics consisting of blue and black fruits, loamy earth, flowers, liquorice, and spice box. The wine is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a silky finish. It appears to have hit full maturity, but it can easily be held in a cold cellar for another 10+ years.

OUR OWN NOTES - when last drunk 27/4/2012 - massive, monumental, concentrated Cos drinking absolutely in its window. Dark in a very "Pauillac", masculine fashion but with optimal complexity and subtlety. Medium to full-bodied, but the massive concentration of taste gave the impression of being even more full-bodied. A classic and great Cos drinking perfectly. A monumental effort, well-deserving to be in this price range.
