A superbly presented mature bottle of 1984 Château Lamothe Sauternes, a classified-growth sweet wine from one of Bordeaux's most celebrated appellations.
Château Lamothe holds Grand Cru Classé status under the historic 1855 classification of Sauternes and Barsac, placing it amongst the recognised classified estates of the region.
Produced from grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), traditional Sauternes develops extraordinary complexity with bottle age. At over 40 years old, a well-preserved example such as this may show mature notes of honey, dried apricot, marmalade, candied citrus peel, caramel, beeswax, nuts and gentle spice, balanced by the acidity characteristic of quality Sauternes.
This particular bottle presents exceptionally well for its age, with an impressively high level into the neck, clear mature golden/amber colour, intact capsule and a very clean original label. No obvious evidence of leakage is visible.
