Description

Owned by the Thiel family since 1920, but sold in 2008 to the owner of Clos Fourtet in St Emilion, this 50 hectare property vies with Chasse Spleen and Maucaillou for top spot in Moulis.

Planted with 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot.

Robert Parker 88 pts
"A delicious black rasberry-and currant-scented wine, the 1982 Poujeaux displays intense, medium to full-bodied sweet, round, generous flavor as well as a corpulent, glycerin-endowed, rustic finish. Although fully mature, it exhibits no sign of losing its fruit."

This more recently from Cellartracker
"The wine wears a dark robe with fading orange at the rim. The nose is that of mature, classic, old school Bordeaux with underbrush, cassis, smoke and maple syrup. The palate is a little disjointed at first but comes together after a splash decant to show lean, firm entry and dusty tannic finish. The wine has fruit to cover the strong tannins and is destined for the table to be at its best. I remember this wine being large-scaled and this bottle confirms this. Remarkable, really, given the '82 vintage characteristics. Based on memory the wine has lost fat and tightened up. This is rough-and-tumble Bordeaux at its best!"
