Description

Sauternes is Bordeaux's iconic dessert wine. Château Rieussec is one of only 9 Chateaus classified as 1st Growth Sauternes in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. Apart from d'Yquem it's one of the best you can get. Owned by Lafite Rothschild since 1984, this vintage pre-dates that and was 'outstanding' according to the Wine Advocate. Ullage 'base of neck', very good for it's age, cork has slipped below base of foil(seems fairly common with old Sauternes looking at closed auctions) and actual cork-wine space is 1.4cm. Classic copper/orange/gold colour of old Sauternes and a few tartrate crystals have developed in the bottle. Often refered to as 'wine diamonds' they are considered a good sign of high quality.
