Description

Sauternes is Bordeaux's iconic dessert wine. Château Rieussec is one of only 9 Chateaus classified as 1st Growth Sauternes in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. Apart from d'Yquem it's one of the best you can get. Owned by Lafite Rothschild since 1984, but this vintage pre-dates many of their improvements. Not a great year in fairness due to October rains but Robert Parker describes it as "the most underrated vintage of the decade where a strict selection was made".

Suggesting a lighter style of wine which is still quite youthful but will be drinking nicely now.
Ullage 'just into neck', good for it's age. Slight scuffing on label(top-right).A light orange/gold colour suggesting it is still immmature when conpared to the 1975(see seperate auction). A few tartrate crystals have developed in the bottle; often refered to as 'wine diamonds', they are considered a good sign of high quality.
