Domaine Comtes Lafon Volnay 2000
The decision to declassify the upper level fruit into a villages level wine is ample testament to the quality first philosophy at Domaine Lafon and the additional aging in cask has benefited this enormously as it is substantially better in bottle than it was from cask. Exuberantly fruity, clean and bright with classic pinot noir aromas followed by light to barley medium weight , delicious flavors that offer good richness, fine flavor intensity and quality length. There isn't much structure yet this is simply delicious and finishes with a sappy, subtle and nicely complex finale.

Domaine Comtes Lafon Volnay 2005
A distinctly more elegant nose that blends attractive aromas of red and black pinot fruit with violet and subtle spice notes that merge into rich , sweet and beautifully precise flavors that are chiseled, refined and pure if not as deep as those of the Duresses.

Domaine Comtes Lafon Volnay Santenots du Milieu 2003
Oddly, this isn't as ripe. I say oddly because Santenots often produces the ripest wines in all of Volnay yet here the superbly complex aromas, while certainly ripe, are high toned and almost completely red, running toward red raspberry and cherry. The impeccably balanced and exceptionally concentrated flavors offer excellent intensity and stunning length. underpinned by silky tannins and that seductive velvety quality a fine Santenots can have in spades. The only nit is the noticeable touch of finishing warmth but its not enough to be intrusive.
