Description

Dense, ripe red with masses of blackberry, cassis, plum, liquorice, anise and spicy oak flavours. Perhaps it's a function of vine age - this is one of the Gimblett GravelsÆ oldest vineyards - but the wine appears to be more dense than others from the area in 2005 and there are no signs that it is over-extracted. A very appealing and sensuous red that, though fairly simple and accessible now, will deliver much more with bottle age. (06-Jun-2007) Bob Campbell Master Of Wine 94/100

16.5/20 Decanter Magazine

This is the wine that famously came sixth in a tasting involving some of the top Bordeaux wines.
The three medal positions went to: 2005 Château Lafite-Rothschild (£975 a bottle), 2005 Château Mouton-Rothschild (£675) and 2005 Château Angélus (£295). Just off the podium, in fourth, is 2006 Sacred Hill "Helmsman" 2005 Château Haut-Brion (£700) is fifth and 2006 Newton Forrest "Cornerstone" is sixth
