CHATEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL 1996

A perfect bottle of this fine 27 year old Cos d'Estournel 1996, with a fill level well into the neck, a lovely label and tight stamped capsule.

98 points Decanter
A brilliant year for Left Bank Bordeaux. This was stubborn in its youth and took time to open, but now stands as one of the great all-time vintages of Cos, in my opinion. It delivers still, at 25 years old, just utterly delicious, with complex slate, pencil lead, graphite, undergrowth, black truffle flavours and a crushed-mint finish. It is still juicy, with perfectly integrated fine tannins and a ton of personality. (JA) (4/2021)

Tasting Note
Made from 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, this is a huge, backward wine reminiscent of the 1986 Cos d'Estournel. Massive in the mouth, and one of the most structured and concentrated young Cos d'Estournels I have ever tasted. It requires 7-8 years of cellaring, and should last for 30-35 years.
