Description

Winemaker's notes:
The nose is vibrant and youthful with fruit characters of cherry, raspberry and rhubarb with spices and fresh flowers in the background. As the wine opens more layers emerge with nuances of soil characters and more violets. The red fruit characters have intensity on the palate and are very focused with a great balance of ripeness and flavour development. There is an underlying game character and dried savoury herb nuances of sage and oregano build on the mid palate. The flowery, powder like tannins match the elegant nature of the wine wonderfully and provide a very unobtrusive, yet vital structure to the wine. The natural acidity is a hallmark of Grenache from this sub-region and certainly features in this wine. It evolves in the glass and provides more enjoyment with each sip. This wine will certainly benefit from careful cellaring for at least 15 years and provide immense joy and interest along the way.

James Suckling:
September 2012 Lovely strawberry fruit with hints of flowers on the nose and palate. Medium bodied, with fine tannins and a delicious finish. Balanced and delicious. Drink now and over the next eight years. Screw cap.

James Halliday, The Australian Wine Companion 2012:
94pts
Polished and detailed red fruit bouquet, with clove and Provencal herbs on display; medium-bodied and almost silky in texture, with fine-grained tannins and an even-fruited finish. To 2020.

Wine Spectator:
91pts
February 2012 Dark and spicy, this red is soft in texture, brimming with blackberry, smoke and wet slate flavors that linger on the open finish. Drink now through 2019.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
92pts
The 2009 Blewitt Springs Single Region Grenache has a medium garnet-purple color. Youthfully mute, it reveals delicate warm raspberry, strawberry and mulberry aromas with spice box plus some eucalypt and thyme. Very crisp, rich and full, it offers medium-firm, velvety tannins and a long and spicy finish.

International Wine Companion:
93pts
Bright ruby-red. Intense, highly perfumed aromas of red fruit preserves, spicecake, herbs and cola. Smooth and fleshy, with densely packed yet vibrant flavors of raspberry and bitter cherry. Spicy and quite elegant, with fine-grained, silky tannins and impressive finishing cling. This doesn't want to let go.
