Description

Not presently on sale in the UK that I can find. Needs keeping for a few years yet.

"Polished. Mid-depth yellow, with youthful green hints. The nose shows classic old-fashioned Vouvray wet-wool characteristics. Linear, very fine and focused on entry. The acidity races through the wine. This is still very closed but shows great potential. There is obvious sweetness on entry, but balanced by the thread of malic acid. This is concentrated and powerful but exhibits great freshness and a lightness of touch. It would be infanticide to approach this now. It needs another decade at least to show its true potential. 37g/l. (09/08)"

Richard Kelley MW: The definitive guide to the wines of the Loire

“Exudes sweet peony florality, Chartreuse-like herbal elixir, and botrytis honey. Clear, polished and refined in the mouth, with an infectious primary quince and peachy fruit juiciness to balance its nobly rotten richness, this finishes (in no way dominated by its considerable residual sugar) like some cleansing, herbal breath-mint with a dollop of honey.”

Wine Advocate: 91 points

"A fairly polished, golden hue here. The nose is youthful, rich in fruit tones and also primary indicators of sweetness. The aromas are reminiscent of yellow plum, with a roasted edge, as well as sweet star fruit, but over all of this there is a more domineering aroma very redolent of saffron, with sweet melon overtones. The palate is cool but still very substantial on entry, and this very solid character persists through the middle of the wine which shows a robust, masculine reticence. There is a lovely balance despite this, the fruit showing slightly bitter pithy elements, nevertheless it is more than matched by a solid core of acidity and a mild grip. The acidity isn't overly prominent, nor is the residual sugar it has to be said, the wine showing a really savoury grip in the finish, one which brings a mildly urgent sense rather than one of soft, mellifluous sweetness. All the same, very exciting potential here, but one that needs five years at least before it will be even remotely approachable. When I last tasted this nearly ten years ago I wrote that it would be for drinking over the next decade. I should have been a little more optimistic than that; there is plenty of life left in this one yet."
