Description

Domaine Léon Barral is in the Faugères appellation in Languedoc-Roussillon, for the past 30 years under the direction of Didier Barral, growing all the Rhone varietals.

This one is Carignan - Grenache – Syrah, scoring 90+ universally. Falstaff (94) says “dark ruby, violet tints, delicate bright rim. Herbal savouriness underlies blackberry fruit, mineral, fine cedar touch, with candied violets and cardamom. Juicy, very good complexity, sweet cherries, some liquorice, ripe, supporting tannins, mineral and long length, salty finish, safe future potential”. I say, open a bottle or two when you have dinner guests and are serving garlic roast lamb and they will be friends for life. Or keep it, put a rib-eye on the Bar-B-Q, and watch the opening of the Los Angeles Olympics. At 14.5% ABV this is one for the carnivores.

Part of a lot bought a couple of years ago on a visit to wholesalers Le Touquet Vins and stored in my climate-controlled cellar since.
