Description

1 bottle each of the 2002, 2004, 2005 of this single vineyard wine from Domaine Tempier.

Located in the heart of the Bandol appellation, Domaine Tempier's 38 hectares are spread over several parcels facing the sea on steep, sun-drenched slopes.

The wine is a special cuvee, coming from the Migoua vineyard - on the outskirts of the village of Le Beausset, perched on the southern face of the Le Beausset-Vieux hill range on chalk and clay terroir. The vineyard is in a natural amphitheatre with an average altitude of 270m above sea level.

With a tendency towards more animal notes than the estate's other cuvees, La Migoua expresses great complexity. It is a wine with a delicate nose, excellent balance and long ageing potential.

Professional Notes as follows:

2005 Migoua:

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The smallest production of Tempier’s cuvees, this has an opulent nose, very ripe with more obvious scents of oak. Similarly the palate is very concentrated but just lacking a little character and again, just a little over-oaked. A delicious wine, quite gamey, but not as enchanting as the Tourtine. Drinking 2015-2025 (6/2007)

92 points Wine Spectator

Very lush and creamy for Bandol, showing concentrated berry and plum flavors, with notes of dark cherry. Mocha and dark chocolate linger on the broad finish. Drink now through 2014. (6/2008)

2004 Migoua:

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

This is actually quite similar to the 2005: typically dominated by oak on the nose, perhaps with a little more vanilla pod. The palate is full-bodied, very concentrated with immense purity, but ferociously primal and backward. It will need some considerable cellaring, but certainly the length on the finish suggests a great wine. Drinking 2015-2028. (6/2007)

95 points Wine Spectator

An intense, mineral-laden red, with concentrated layers of dark plum, raspberry, smoke and spice flavors. Chiseled and powerful, with fine-grained tannins and a luxurious cream- and cocoa-filled finish. Drink now through 2020. (7/2007)

2002 Migoua:

Could source no notes from the internet for the 2002, but it has an average CellarTracker rating of 91.3 notes from 14 reviews.
