One 75cl bottle of 1988 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Hauserer.

About the wine:
Clos Hauserer is a limestone-rich site in Turckheim, lying just below the Hengst Grand Cru, and is known for producing Riesling of structure, minerality and long ageing capacity. Zind-Humbrecht has long been recognised as one of Alsace’s benchmark producers, particularly for dry Riesling built to evolve over decades.

The 1988 vintage in Alsace was classical rather than opulent, favouring acidity, balance and longevity. At this advanced stage of maturity, the wine is expected to show fully developed tertiary character: petrol and flint, dried citrus peel, beeswax, honey and wet stone, with structure still held together by Riesling’s naturally high acidity. This is very much a wine for lovers of mature Riesling rather than primary fruit.

Best served cool rather than cold, and ideally decanted carefully to remove any sediment.
