Description

The Rioja region in northern Spain is famous for producing rich robust red wines. The predominant variety is Tempranillo; this wine is 95% with 5% Graciano.

The vineyard is 50 years old with low yielding bush vines producing deeply coloured long living wines. This wine has had 12 months French oak barrel maturation and 3 years bottle aging.

The bouquet is understated at first but with some breathing opens up to reveal intense iodine and mocha with a vanilla lift. The palate has obvious oak and savoury smoked meats with a spicy fruit pudding complexity. This is a big wine for hearty meat dishes or aged vintage cheese.

The 1994 vintage is widely regarded as being amongst the top three of the century and the wines have lived on very well.
