“WOW! Served double blind, everything sniff & sip was a thrill. Overflowing with chocolate covered cherries, figs, plum and spice, the wine was rich, intense, long and complex. OK, it took 70 years to come around, but it was worth the wait for the next generation, or two from the original buyer. I really do not get young Port, but this was close to off the charts.”

A very fine looking bottle. Rather helpfully the glass is much more translucent than on later ports, so you can clearly see the level right on the crease of the neck and the shoulder. Part of the capsule covering has come away, but the revealed cork top is clean, dry and firm. The bottle has (of course!) been stored on its side and there's zero sign of historic or recent seepage.

The back story of this particular bottle is that it was gifted by the mayor of Porto to a UK dignitary (name omitted for discretion) – hence the dodgy presentation case that’ll come with it. You’re welcome :) – who subsequently stopped drinking and sold it to me. I’ve now decided with a heavy heart that it’s above my paygrade, so looking for a fourth home.
