Description

One bottle of this highly rated red burgundy. Not easy to come by now: a bottle shipped retail if available in the UK will cost about £303.

Stephen Tanzer 91 points:
Super ripe aromas of cherry, raspberry and mocha. Chewy and ripe, with good mid-palate fat and very good flavor development.

Burghound:
Remarkably elegant Gevrey with wonderfully elegant, precise, mineral-laden fruit and finely detailed, fresh, indeed lively flavors underpinned by moderate, ripe structure and excellent length. Stylish, classy, precise and brilliant….

Cellartracker 6/9/2019 - Burgnick Likes this wine: 93 Points
It took a good two hours for it to blossom. Signature Dujac spice, wild berries, herbs, earth, minerals and candied fruit. Grand-cru depth and weight with good length. Palate was robust and powerful while it also subtlely oozed its elegance. While 2001 Dujac CSD and CDLR are well known to be amazing, the Combottes was no slouch. It has a great prospect from further aging. If you were to drink this now, I would give it a 2 hours slow ox aeration.

93 points Allen Meadows – Burghound:
I was clearly a bit too conservative when I last reviewed this from bottle in 2004. There is an initial touch of reduction though it quickly blows off to reveal floral, menthol and secondary fruit aromas. There is lovely richness to the supple, round and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that possess fine mid-palate succulence that continues onto the mouth coating and beautifully well-balanced finish. This is terrific and for my taste, it has arrived at its peak (7/2013).

The bottle on sale, which is the one in the photographs, was bought from the Wine Society as part of a mixed case a good few years ago, and I have kept it in a dark underground cellar since purchase. The condition is good, as shown in the photographs, with the level into the neck.
