Description

This is a single bottle of the delightful 1999 Vigna del Sorbo Chianti Classico Reserva. The bottle has a few marks on the label from the shelving in the Euorcave, and the cockerel label on the top has come slightly unstuck. The level is good, and still into the neck, and there are no signs of seepage.

Fontodi's 1999 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo is another dazzling wine. Rich, powerful and intense, the 1999 brings to mind the 2006 in its ample, full-bodied, structured personality. Hints of mocha and chocolate from the slightly higher-toast barrels that were typical of the era add complexity, nuance and depth. Violets, tar and licorice inform the powerful, virile, voluptuous finish. This is another remarkably well-balanced Sorbo, although the style is very much that of the time. -- Antonio Galloni 94pts
