Description

About this vintage:
The 2016 season at Castello Nipozzano can be considered a great vintage. With regard to temperatures, 2016 was characterised by a late, cool spring and a warm and sunny August, but it is the rainfall above all that explains this excellent growing season. There was abundant precipitation during the flowering period, which then became scarce from the end of June until harvest. Together with the high summer temperatures, this led to the early ripening of varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Vinification and ageing:
Grapes were harvested by hand from the Mormoreto vineyard in 15 kg crates. After an initial sorting of the clusters on the vine, they were selected again upon their arrival in the cellar. This attention to detail ensures the greatest possible quality. Alcoholic fermentation took place at controlled temperatures and lasted for ten days. Maceration was defined based on tasting and was finished after a period of one month. After racking, the wine was completed, bringing the malolactic fermentation process to a close. At the end of the year, Mormoreto started its ageing process in French oak barriques, where it remained for the next two years until it was bottled. The subsequent months in the bottle enabled Mormoreto to become refined, expressing its maximum elegance and potential.

Tasting Notes:
"Made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese, this opens with attractive aromas of black-skinned berry, underbrush and graphite. The savoury palate offers blackberry jam, tobacco and espresso alongside fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced." -Wine Enthusiast-

"Deep ruby with a light violet shimmer. Spicy and finely marked nose of thyme and leather followed by background notes of ripe redcurrant and a little elderberry, appealing. Rich, well-embedded tannins that gradually evolve, well-defined and with good depth accentuated by subtle liquorice notes on the finish."
-Falstaff-
