Description

Gaia is a Greek wine producer with wineries in Nemea and on the island of Santorini. It is particularly known for its mineral, crisp Thalassitis Santorini wine made from the Assyrtico grape, and its flagship wine from Nemea, made from Agiorgitiko. The company began production in 1994 and since then Gaia now produces five wines on Santorini, including a vinsanto. These are made in a converted tomato factory on the waterfront

The hot dry summer of 2005 provided very healthy grapes with intense flavours and this “sticky” wine is absolutely unctuous made from the Assyrtico grape. These wines are often aged oxidatively and show developed characteristics of rich caramel, butter and hazelnut. Aged naturally with a minimum of a decade in barrel this wine is unfortified, unlike some vin santo which have grape spirit added. These wines were bottled in 2015.

Excellent presentation and a delight to behold these half litre bottles average rrp is around £35 and they are currently lying in the premises of a wine merchant.
