About the wine:
Vecchio 800 is a historic Piedmontese aromatised and fortified wine associated with the Conterno name, produced in a traditional regional style that predates modern vermouth classifications.
It is generally understood to be based on Nebbiolo wine, fortified and aromatised with a selection of spices and botanicals, bottled at approximately 16.5% alcohol.

Examples from the 1960s are now rarely encountered. Bottles are known to show dried cherry and plum fruit, oxidative depth, sweetness balanced by bitterness, and complex spice notes such as vanilla, cinnamon, anise and clove.

This is a highly unusual and historically interesting bottle from one of Piedmont’s most revered names.
