Description

Old Australian Cabernet from Eden Valley in the Barossa Ranges. It is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. It is matured for 12 months in Nevers oak.

Negociants 2012 ICON Tasting (Zed451, Chicago IL): nose: very aromatic with good complex tones of spices, berries, tobacco leaves, dark floral tones and a touch of black pepper.

taste: Full bodied with a lot of balance and polished tones of spices, dark red cherries, tobacco leaves, black pepper and floral tones.

overall: this was really nice. It was lacking some depth on both the nose and palate. Still, it was very well balanced and a great example of how a shiraz can age.

Deep brick coloured, this bottle was showing a bit of barnyard / medicinal brettanomyces character on the nose giving way to aromas of dried cranberries, leather, smoked game, iodine, sultana and some spice box notes. The medium bodied palate has crisp acidity with a medium level of fine tannins and a good amount of earthy / savoury flavours, lending a long layered finish. Peaked and still pleasant, this wine needs drinking up.
