Description

Purchased 12 of these in 2010 drank 6 bottles over the last 10yrs and opened and tasted the 7th bottle in Aug 2020

It is hard to not have high expectations when there’s an old Bordeaux around, even on this 35 – year old Cru Bourgeois Superieur.

The color is beautiful, surprisingly dark and clear. Very little precipitate left in the bottle after decanting ….. and nothing to be seen in the glass.

Characteristic smell of Bordeaux. Lovely, ripe berries and fruits, meat, and a barnyard full of damp hay. What is surprising is that there are a lot of green in the glass. Vine tomatoes, bay leaves, haricots verts, brocolli and Brussels sprouts. Sometimes this aroma profile can be a bit unpleasant, but here it is woven deliciously in with sausage, smoked ham, black pepper, tarred rope, menthol, oatmeal and cough medicine. To name a few. Very pleasant and complex flavors that one could sit with a long time and enjoy.

The scent is so wonderful that one can not stop oneself from drinking. A bit early, it turns out. The wine is good but the acidity dominates in the mouth, and the whole body feels a bit short. Dry and dusty in the fruit, and seedish astringency and sharp bitterness. As it is so often the wine started to open up itself after some time in the glass and the length improved. The acidity is marked by a relatively small body and not an ideal astringency.

Been stored in my temperature controlled cellar for 10yrs 5 bottles available.
