Description

I was always under the impression that the '69 Mouton Rothschild was an unqualified failure, as well it should be given the difficulty of the vintage... I was wrong. While brick in color, the wine has an engaging forest floor /cedar/ smoked meat quality and a Right Bank Merlot-like warmth to it. Medium bodied, balanced acidity and moderately lengthy finish. A great find in the hard to locate 1969 vintage. "Off year" Moutons will always be a bit pricy as the scarcity of bottles fron these years has driven up the price to collectors. Enjoy the 1969 Mouton--but don't linger over it: the wine should be drunk within one to two hours after opening. The artist is Miro. (Joe Zugelder, 2010)
