Description

Champagne Claude Cazals comprises 9 hectares planted only with Chardonnay, split between four communes in the Côte des Blancs all of which have Grand Cru or Premier Cru status; Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Vertus and Villeneuve. In the village Oger they own a clos of 3.7 hectares, one of only nine officially recognised clos in Champagne, in which the family home is situated. The wall surrounding the vineyard provides protection from the elements creating a unique microclimate. Delphine notes that it regularly yields fruit with at least 1° more sugar than the other sites. Since 1995 the fruit from this walled vineyard has been used to produce a single vintage cuvée, the Clos Cazals Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru.

The estate dates back to 1897 when it was founded by Ernest Cazals, a tonnelier from the l’Herault. Three generations on it is still very much a family concern and since the death of Claude Cazals in 1996, his daughter Delphine, has taken on the responsibility of running the domaine.
