Description

'A discreet touch of pain grillé frames a nose that also expresses a subtle touch of very ripe exotic fruit as well as floral aromas that merge into rich, full and delicious flavors with unusually good dry extract levels for a regional wine and culminates in a sappy and complex finish. Very solid quality here for what this is.'
Allen Meadows, Burghound. July 2008.

The Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc is made from Chardonnay grapes grown in two parcels of vines; 'Les Houlières' planted in 1979 and 1982; and 'Les Parties' planted in 1998, 1999 and 2003.
After carefull hand harvesting and grape selection, the grapes are pneumaticaly pressed slowly and gently before decanting over 24 hours into French oak barrels, 12% of which are new oak, for fermentation.
After fermentation, the wine is matured in oak casks for 12 months before a further 6 months in tank. The wine is then homeopathicaly fined and lightly filtered if necessary before bottling.

Located in Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Leflaive was founded by Joseph Leflaive in 1920. After changing career from marine engineering (working on the first French Submarine no less) to winemaking, he started buying up phyloxera ravaged vineyards, undertaking a programme of replanting with specific rootstock selection, slowly extending and enhancing the vineyards.
Upon the death of Joseph, the four children Anne, Jeanne, Joseph and Vincent took over the running of the estate before appointing Anne Claude, the daughter of Vincent Leflaive, as the joint manager with Olivier, the son of Joseph, in 1990.
In 1994 Ann Claude took over the full management of the estate, who started experimenting in biodynamic and organic viticultural techniques before switching the entire estate's holdings over to biodynamic production where the Domaine has cemented it's reputation as one of the absolute best producers on Burgundy.
Today Domaine Leflaive enjoys a well postition at the very top of the pile of Burgundy domaines, producing some of the finest white wines in the world.
