Description

Tasted at the Margaret River Cabernet tutorial. A deep black/garnet colour. The nose has stupendous definition and clarity, with that ethereal sense of controlled power and intensity, scents of dark cherry, pencils shavings and cedar all with wonderful definition and focus. The palate is medium-bodied, superb acidity, quite austere with cedar and tobacco, fine tannins, quite sharp and a little earthy on the finish. This is just a baby but should be considered a great success for the vintage. Drink 2012-2030. Tasted November 2009.
Score: 95 Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com (June 10), June 2010

Robert Parker awards this wine 92-95 points and says: "The 2004 is a streamlined, graceful example of Chateau Margaux with a deep plum/ruby/purple color and attractive black currant fruit intermixed with notions of white flowers, oak, and cherries. Rigidly constructed, with a lovely, medium-bodied texture, and tremendous purity, it will undoubtedly close down and need some time in the bottle. This beauty should be at its finest between 2010-2025.

My first though here is simply "beautiful". The nose has a toasted character, with exotic spices and a lovely perfume to the fruit. The oak is still evident, as we might expect, but the wine clearly has great style. The palate begins with an elegant but creamy nature, gentle but with fine substance and vigour, and a great grip underneath. This is full, but delineated and certainly stylish. Wow! This is a stupendous wine, fine and harmonious in composition, yet full of vigour and life and is for me, on the day, the wine of the tasting. From a 2004 Bordeaux tasting at four years of age. 19+/20 (November 2008) The Wine Doctor

Tasted by Matt Scott on 4/22/2012 & rated 94 points: Decanted for three hours. An almost black and deep red couloir, with a ruby rim. Flower shop, blackberry, currant, river stones, tobacco leaf and bread pudding. There's a little of that Margaux perfume and mushroom as well. So much structure and a little latent, I would recommend a nice decant and watch this beauty evolve for many years. '04 is really a sleeper vintage and this First Growth whispers statuesque elegance.

Tasted by gsquireh on 12/1/2011 & rated 94 points: With an hour and a half decanting-beautiful.

Tasted by wino_tim on 5/29/2011 & rated 93 points: Deservingly illlustrious, this is complex with a fresh, leafy tobacco overlay to the ripe black fruit, dried flower and graphite-like mineral flavors. Expansive, silky and round, drinking well in its youth, with firm tannins, full body and beautiful precision.

Tasted by DavidF90210 on 5/21/2011 & rated 97 points: essence of great terroir and top flight winemaking. Bordeaux of the vintage.
