Description

Chateau des Rontets, Pouilly-Fuisse, Birbettes, 2004

The Château des Rontets, situated in Fuissé, is a family domain that was founded in the 19th century. It has been in the same family since 1870 and is now run by Claire Gazeau and her husband Fabio Montrasi who have brought it to a very high standard.
This Pouilly-Fuissé is made from very old vines of 70+ years from four plots: two of them were planted in the 1920s, right after the phylloxera epidemic, and two in 1945, at the end of World War II. They produce small, concentrated, aromatic grapes. The vinification of Les Birbettes is made in 228 and 400-liter barrels from one to six years old. The wine is racked before the following harvest and assembled on fine lees for an additional ten months maturing in older barrels. A second racking is made to prepare the bottling, which is made without fining or filtration, lending it further character and texture. This cuvée rewards long cellaring, as it only really starts to express itself after a few years.

Francois d'Allaines, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru, En Remilly, 2004

A close neighbour of Montrachet, lying between Chassagne and Puligny villages, Saint-Aubin is a wine-growing village in the southern part of the Cote de Beaune, the heartland of the great white Bourgogne wines, producing world-class chardonnay. The “En Remilly” plot, one of the best Premier Crus of the appellation, has a privileged location on the hill that peaks between Chassagne and St-Aubin.
Saint-Aubin produces firm and flattering white wines - a bit sharp in its youth – that become fleshier and fuller with time. This is a wine with real breeding. Mature Saint Aubin develop rich fragrances: beeswax and honey, marzipan, ambergris, and cinnamon.
Domaine Francois D’Allaines is located in Demigny, a just few miles from Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet appellations. Low yields, carefully selected grapes, and meticulous vinification in barrels give this Saint-Aubin its character.

Both bottles, from the great 2004 vintage, are in excellent condition: very good levels, labels and capsules are intact.
