Description

“Pristine and pure nose of lemon and herbs, nutty, brûléed pineapple, molasses and salted caramel. Pure, sleek, cool and regal, this is truly profound. Vibrant salty fresh acids, piercing length and mouth wateringly youthful. Wow!” - (97+/100 Greg Sherwood MW)

What you’re bidding on:
One 75cl bottle of 1959 Moulin Touchais Anjou Moelleux

About the wine:
Moulin Touchais occupies a unique place in the Loire, having built its reputation on deliberately slow release and extreme longevity. They do not release wines before they are at least 10 years old.

While many producers focus on freshness and early drinking, Moulin Touchais has historically demonstrated that Chenin Blanc from Anjou can age for half a century or more when harvested with sufficient acidity and concentration.

The estate’s vineyards, planted on schist-rich slopes, give wines with a firm mineral backbone and the ability to evolve gradually over decades. The vintages from the mid and late 1950s are legendary.
Bottles from the late 1950s are now increasingly rare and prized for their balance between maturity and remaining vitality. They are highly desirable wines.

The 1959 vintage is expected to show layered tertiary character, with notes of honey, caramelised apple, quince, dried fruit and spice, supported by acidity that keeps the palate lively despite its age.

Luke Flunder’s opinion, shown in the linked YouTube clip, shows that the 1959 is still thriving.
