Description

This sweet, generous Mouton hugs you from the start. The palate is filled with ripe dark berry fruit, cedar and sweet spices with tannins that are gentle, firm and velvety. Balanced, easy to enjoy and love, this is a great vintage for Mouton.

I have to say - contrary to some critics - this is one of my favourite Moutons. Soft and gentle on the palate with the tanins very fine and nicely resolved. Lots of luscious red berries in the mouth, leather and spice on the palate and the nose. The wine has such a deep and velvety feel that one might almost confuse it with a Margaux. Deeply delicious and utterly satisfying. Maybe not as broad-shouldered as it could be I find this wine utterly entrancing and it should remain so for at least the next five to ten years. YUM.

Very well,balanced. Lite tannins with soft fruit. Drinking well.

5/16/2017 - THE VINES THAT BIND WROTE: 93 Points
Mouton Rothschild Vertical Dinner (Vaucluse): Ripe and slightly roasted nose, but also quite juicy. Sauvage and wood spice here. Dry wood, dry leather. Expressive and showy, but dry. Sweeter red cherry fruit on the palate. Not too dry either. This is good sniffing and drinking, but it does not show like any other 1990 first growth, which are beasts comparatively. Secondary and thinner here, but classic.

5/16/2017 - KEMO SABE LIKES THIS WINE: 93 Points
Big sauvage on this wine. But so so good. Wood spices, pine box - a cedar closet. Dry wood. Consistent on the palate. Perfect balance. Classic old world wine with moderate alcohol, tannin and fruit at this stage. Very enjoyable.
