Description

A pair of bottles from a case stored in my underground Victorian cellar.

Remarkable wine from the Apalta vineyard in Chile's warm Rapel valley. This is made from about 55% cabernet sauvignon, planted in the 1890s, and 45% carmenère, about 60 years old, aged for 18 months in barriques. Ripe, rich cedary aromas from the cabernet and a rich voluptuous palate from the carmenère with a fresh finish.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate: 92/100
“The 2009 … is more focused aromatically with notions of toasty oak, floral notes, balsamic, blueberry, and blackberry. Liqueurlike on the palate (but dry), this is a plush, pleasure bent offering that plays it a bit closer to the vest than the 2008.” (Jay Milller)
