Description

Bottle in excellent condition of this Spanish cult white wine from the 2008 vintage.

Organic wine. Ownership: Pago de Carroviejas Group Grapes sourced from 180 year-old, organically farmed, ungrafted vineyards. 100% fermented in the 'Monasterio del Parral'.

'A screaming good deal in white wine, this is qualitatively on par with good 1er cru quality Chassagne-Montrachet for the price of a village wine. The grapes used are 100% pre-phylloxera verdejo from 100-160 year old vines, planted in sand at 850 meters of elevation. There is no de-stemming; the grapes are lightly foot trodden before going into the Vaslin press. Several primarily smaller coopers provide barrels as well as demi muids of 600 liter capacity. Only a tiny percentage of the oak is brand new, and only a partial malolactic fermentation is employed. Both of these factors contribute to the overall finesse, brightness, and vigor of this wonderful wine. Ossian winemaker Pierre Millemann is a full-time consultant at DRC, so he is intimately familiar with taking care of fruit from special vineyard sites and producing from it world class wine. Given the raw material and personnel involved, it's no wonder that this wine is as good as it is, transcending one's idea of what verdejo grapes are capable of producing.' KL wines.
