Description

The 2005 vintage was of consistent quality. The palate displays an oscillation and juxtaposition between a solid, assertive and muscular first impression, and later, an opulent, saturated and succulent demeanour. Blackberry and loganberry fruit flavours glide across a supportive continuum of tannin and oak to reveal a profound synergy of Blackforest cake and bread & butter pudding flavours. What's promised on the nose is revealed on the palate - perceptions delivered.

Winemaker comments Impenetrable black/ purple with a concession of red at the rim. An unashamedly powerful, sweet nose of ripe fruits, (blackcurrant, concentrated cassis) and unbaked Christmas cake mix, align with an aromatic coal/smoky barrel ferment lift. Complex and distinctive! Dark stone fruits, mocha and dark chocolate flavours stand apart with a black olive, tarry ‘darkness’ lurking behind - 14 months in 100% new oak handled comfortably. Succulent and fleshy without any suggestion of over ripeness, facilitated by huge, ripe, mouth coating tannins that coat evenly without excessive grip. Long and lingering


A great wine but will improve in time and would make a superb present or special day bottle or a great buy for investment…….
