Description

One of my favorite vintages of Grange to actually drink at present is the 1982, a vintage that Max Schubert called, in his low-key manner, "very good." A blend of 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a wine with an open-knit, seductive style. Dense ruby/purple with sweet black raspberry, jammy plum, and currant flavors, the wine tastes like dry vintage port, but also seems to be approaching full maturity. The wine seems low in acidity, sweet in tannin wiith the firmness, ripeness, richness, and powers of seduction. The wine is gorgeously opulent and impossible to resist. Anticipated maturity: now-2016.
97/100 Robert Parker

Robert Parker, 2 July 2009; 'The 1982 is another superb example of that. One of the jammiest, most precocious Granges when it was released, it has never gone through a closed stage and continues to drink beautifully. A full-bodied, opulent Grange, it reveals an inky/purple color to the rim as well as a beautiful nose of crushed blueberries, blackberries, smoke, toast, roasted herbs, and road tar. This dense, plush, expansive, seamless, seductive 1982 has not changed much since I had it nearly a decade ago. 97 points.'

Tasted by steinersing on 1/26/2012 & rated 96 points: With J&M in Koh Samui. One of the best Grange experiences - this feels very complete, all parts in place and perfectly matured. Elegant and opulent at the same time - more finesse than in some of the other Grange wines.
Tasted by patrickt on 1/27/2011 & rated 96 points: Drank with Dan, grandiose wine. Color was garnet, clear. There was a off aroma that dissipated momentarily. Thick aroma, amazingly fresh for the age, silky mouth feel. The aroma revealed fresh stewing blueberries and blackberries. Disconnect of complex aged aroma, with hints of graphite, cedar, and taste of fresh concentrated plum and prune puree. It was better at one hour. Extremely long finish.
Tasted by Stephen_Skelton_MW on 12/4/2011 & rated 96 points: At long last I desided to drink my last bottle of Grange 1982, the penultimate one having been consumed on 31 Dec 1999. The occasion this time was dinner with Philip Tuck MW and his wife, Kate. I opened it 24 hrs in advance, just to make sure it wasn't corked, and then decanted it at the table. It was still quite youthful, surprisingly so for a wine almost 30 years old, and had a gorgeous full-fruit nose. I am not given to lists of fruits, flowers and other adjectives, so just say it was a great pleasure to drink. Full, without too much alcohol and the balance was superb.
