Description

96 points Wine Spectator: "A magnificent edifice of a wine, elegant and refined in structure but dripping with flavor--a virtual cascade of plum, black cherry, blackberry, anise, pepper and exotic spices that lingers on the finish; this just doesn't quit. Best after 2002." (11/99) 91 points Robert Parker: "This is the first vintage where Grange went to a bottle with laser-etched identification numbers to preclude the possibility of fraudulent bottles. The wine, a blend of 89% Shiraz and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, shows some toasty oak mixed with notes of root vegetables, damp earth, blackberry liqueur, prune, and licorice. The wine is dense, full-bodied, not terribly complex in the mouth, but layered and rich. I would not be surprised to see the rating on this wine improve as this youthful Grange continues to evolve. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020

Tasted by Ex-Ray on 2/7/2012 & rated 94 points: At Barrington's with strip steak, with '01 Henry's Drive Reserve shiraz. Went well with strip steak. Fully mature, complex raspberry aromas, earth and cassis. Aroma moderately pronounced. Medium-full bodied, not as intense as Henry's Drive, but more complexity and elegance. Medium-long aftertaste, excellent. I think it's at its peak.
Tasted by petitblanc on 2/2/2012 & rated 92 points: Similar to previous bottle. Still very young, structured, heavily shaded with oak, classic velvety Grange mouthfeel, just a touch of heat. This is fine for current drinking but will develop for many more years.
Tasted by Ludi on 10/17/2011 & rated 94 points: Very dark garnet. Nose reminds of chocolate, pepper, plums, with more ethereal and floral notes. Powerful yet elegant mouth, silky tannins, incredible drinkability and a long, long chocolatey and fruity finish.
