Description

Bought via BFW in December 2016 from a reputable seller & stored in my Eurocave until 2020 at which point it was transferred to Nickolls & Perks temperature controlled storage until May 23 & is now being stored in my Eurocave. As you can see the fill level is into the neck & the bottle is in excellent condition. See notes below-

Tasted October 2021.
It has been about 5 years since I tasted this and time has been good to this wine. Not quite as concentrated as I had hoped, still, the spring flowers, violets, earth, spice, licorice, plum, and cherry nose gets your attention. Medium/full bodied, elegant, soft, refined, and vibrant, the ripe, sweet plums, cherrys, dark cocoa, and earthy characteristics shine through in the finish. This is only now coming alive, so it should improve and offer pleasure for at least another 2 decades. See below-

It is hard to call Petrus a "sleeper the vintage," but the 2008 will merit more attention than most consumers would think. Low yields of 30 hectolitres per hectare resulted in only 25,000 bottles of this beauty. A wine of great intensity (possibly the most concentraed wine of the vintage), this 100% Merlot boasts a dark purple colour as well as a sweet perfume of mocha, caramel, black cherries, black currants, earth and forest floor. Deep, unctously, textured, full bodied and pure, it will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring and should drink well 25-30 + years.
Drinking window 2015- 2045. Review date 2nd May 2011. See below-

The 2008 Petrus has a classic Pomerol nose, perhaps darker fruit than other vintages, blackberry and briary, a touch of truffle and minerals. I love the definition here, the cool restraint. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a fine bead of acidity, chalky and tensile with moderate depth. There is a sense of composure, maybe even conservatism attached to this Petrus that sports a mineral-driven and (at least for this Pomerol) almost austere finish compared to the 2009 or 2010. But it is a lovely wine that is only just beginning to open. Haunting. (Tasted at BI Wine & amp: spirits annual 10 year on tasting.) (Neal Martin, 02/01/18). Anticipated maturity 2020-2045.
