Description

Pierro is one of premier wine producers of the Margaret River region on the very southwestern tip of Australia.

Owner and winemaker Mike Peterkin established the estate in 1979, and most of his first plantings were white wine grapes - Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. His Chardonnay and Semillon-Sauvignon Blends remain his most famous wines, but he has also been producing excellent Bordeaux blend reds since the mid 1990s and the vineyards (planted in 1988) are now reaching a good age.

LTCf stands for "little touch of cabernet franc", added to the predominant Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend.

The 2005 LTCf was rated 95 points by James Halliday, and 90 points by Huon Hooke.

I've tasted this recently - it has great depth & purity of fruit, and still seems quite young and primary to me. Although the blend is borrowed from Bordeaux, the style is unashamedly new world with more richness and sweetness than any French claret.
