Description

Pierro is one of premier wine producers of the Margaret River region on the very southwestern tip of Australia.

Owner and winemaker Mike Peterkin established the estate in 1979, and most of his first plantings were white wine grapes - Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. He was the pioneer of using the white Bordeaux blend of Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc in Western Australian winemaking, and his remains one of the very best. The LTC refers to the "little touch of Chardonnay" that he also adds to the final blend.

The 2008 vintage has received particularly high ratings: 95 points from Jeremy Oliver, 92 points from James Halliday and 92 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown of the Wine Advocate, who wrote:

"The 2008 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc LTC is a more typical composition: 50% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon and 10% Chardonnay. With notes of waxy lemon, key lime, guava and a touch of toasted almond plus a little honeycomb and straw, it has great tension in the medium bodied mouth revealing crisp acidity and some minerality in the long finish. Drinking now, I anticipate that this vintage will evolve more of that pleasant honeyed / straw character over the coming 3-5 years and drink to 2017+."
