Description

Nit de Nin is a famous name in Priorat.

This wine is made by Ester Nin, whose day job is being ‘the right hand’ of Daphne Glorian of Clos I Terrasses.

Ester bought a tiny parcel (less than 3 acres) of old vines on the steepest hillside slopes above the village of Porrera.

Nit de Nin is made using biodynamic techniques. The vineyards are old (around 80-100 years old) and the vineyard is one of the highest in Priorat. The soils are the famous licorella schist. Around 3 barrels are made each year from 60% Garnacha and 40% Carignan.

This wine is a blockbuster in every sense... powerful, velvety, packed full of dark fruit, cigar. It is concentrated and yet maintains finesse.

This is something special.

I would have this without food myself. Perhaps keep a few nuts and pieces of your favourite cheese in front of you... and spend all evening with this beauty!

Vinous gives this wine 94/100 (2012):

"Dark ruby. Exotically perfumed bouquet evokes red berry liqueur, incense, apricot and smoky Indian spices. Ripe and expansive on the palate, offering sweet black raspberry and floral pastille flavors and a jolt of peppery spices. Closes on a sexy lavender note, with supple tannins providing shape and melding smoothly with the wine's lush fruit."
