Description

A superb bottle of old Madeira. The Quinta da Consolação was well-known in the 19th and first half of the 20th century. 1907 was a medium-to-very good year for Madeira in general: the best are superb.

I believe this wine to be medium-sweet, but this is speculation. This is a vintage Madeira, not a solera Madeira.

The capsule above the cork is of wax and is fully intact. This is an island-bottling. This used to have a back label with more details, but sadly this has long since disappeared and only a vestige remains. The front label is in fair condition and the poem on it reads as follows:

O vino alegra e Conforta
Quem com cautela dele usa
Nascido da sepa torta
Entorta quem dele abusa

Which means something like:

The wine cheers and comforts
him who uses his caution.
Born from a crooked grapevine
it muddles [literally: "makes crooked"] him who abuses it.

I have backlit the bottle to show the level inside it, which is good for its age (although Madeira is not subject to bad storage problems or associated problems with low levels).
