Description

A lot of two rare and fully mature Languedoc-Roussillon wines.

2003 Domaine Madeloc (Pierre Gaillard) Collioure "Cuvée Magenca"

Located in Banyuls-sur-Mer, perhaps the most southern vinyard of mainland France, the Madeloc estate has belonged to Pierre Gaillard since 2002. This talented winemaker from the Northern Rhône, known for his Côte Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph, was fascinated by the beauty of the landscapes of Roussillon and the quality of the vineyard's schist terroirs, wedged between the mountains and the seaside. The plots are scattered between the coast, where the vines benefit from the sea winds which bring freshness to the white wines , the bottom of the valley, ideal for its warmth for natural sweet wines , and the high altitude terroirs, where the freshness is conducive to red wines . Their north, south and east orientation enriches the complexity of the wines by creating a multitude of microclimates.

The Cuvée Magenca is a classic Roussillon blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan made from 100-year old vines located at an altitude between 70 and 240 meters. The nose is very expressive, with notes of red berries, warm spices and vanilla. 2003 was the first vintage produced by Pierre Gaillard at Domaine Madeloc.

2008 Jean-Baptiste Granier Terrasses du Larzac "Les Vignes Oubliées"

Begun by Jean-Baptiste Granier, Les Vignes Oubliées (literally the forgotten vines) saw the light of day in Terrasses du Larzac in the Coteaux du Languedoc wine region. The terroir is made up of schist, sandstone, clay and limestone. This diversity of soils brings real richness to the wines produced. Made from very old vines of grenache, syrah and carignan grapes from a collective of farmers naturally working small plots in the Larzac foothills. Aging takes place for 12 months for all of the estate's vintages . This unique wine is only available in very small quantities.

The 2008 vintage is a fleshy, powerful wine, with a charming and balanced expressing red fruits and spices and showing round tannins, finesse and a nice length on the palate.

Both bottles are in excellent condition (very good levels, no signs of seepage) and I have kept them in a temperature-controlled cellar since acquisition.

Possible collection from London SW1V.
