Description

I am auctioning a truly stunning bottle of Ridge Monte Bello 1992. I have had this wine several times, both at tastings and with food, and it has been a delight each time. A top-of-the-range cabernet based wine, Monte Bello sets the standard for others to follow. The rich Californian fruit is balanced by soft dusty tannins that have mellowed beautifully with time.

The bottle is in great condition, the level is well into the neck, and the wine has been stored in a Eurocave since purchase from a UK wine merchant.

The main label is clean and in excellent condition but has a small mark above the second ‘9’ of 1992; there are also a couple of small stains on the far left hand side of the back label. I tried the 1981 Monte Bello recently, and the wine is still alive and vibrant, pointing to the superb longevity of top Californian cabernets.

'One of the greatest examples of Monte Bello. Only 40% of the crop made it into the final blend,- 75% cabernet sauvignon, 11% merlot, 10% petit verdot 4% cabernet franc.

The wine offers a black/purple color,a profound nose of minerals,cassis,licorice & spices.Spectacular richness & a great mid palate that boasts layers of fruit.Admirable purity,fine underlying acidity,& considerably sweet,ripe tannin make this another compelling effort .Should have 30-35 years of longevity. 96 pts
