Description

A pair of bottles stored in my underground Victorian cellar. I picked up a case of these at auction a couple of years as a nostalgia trip back to when I was first beginning my wine journey around the turn of the millennium. Back then Rosemount was still a respected producer (remember Balmoral Syrah?) and the Hill of Gold Shiraz was a favourite of mine on the shelves of the local Safeway. I've sampled a few of these since purchase and they are still alive with fruit present despite being long beyond their expected drinking window.

Wine Enthusiast: 89/100
Though well-oaked, the wood used is beautifully integrated in this full, round, suave red. Plum, chocolate and licorice elements accented by smoke and mint provide plenty of flavor. A touch soft on the palate, the sweet and sour finish firms up with dusty, even tannins.
